Quite simply, I am a person who is fascinated to the point of distraction by story.  In fact, I cannot remember a time when I did not love stories.  Is there anything more delightful than listening to a wonderful storyteller who has captured both your imagination and your heart?  Is there anything more intoxicating than a novel that causes you to forget to make the dinner?  Is there anything more empowering than actively living your own story?

Over the last decade and a bit, I have made the study of narrative, the study of stories, my main focus as I completed my BAhons in English Studies, my MLitt in the Gothic Imagination and my Phd in the work and fiction of Stephen King.  I continue to teach narrative studies both within the higher education sector as well as outwith, as I home-educate my children and I host workshops that focus on Greek/Roman Myth & archetype.

I am insatiably curious and constantly amazed. I’ve always felt I’m here for a purpose – to leave the world a little better than it was when I arrived, even if only for the individuals whose lives I touch. As long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a doctor, and after years of working as a general practitioner, the pull of holistic practice and the appeal of engaging with healing as opposed to disease management led me into my current job at Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital. Here I get to be the kind of doctor I dreamed of being. I look forward to every Monday with the same enthusiasm I bring to everything I do.

I’ve taught health care professionals in many countries and nowadays I spend most of my time in my home town of Stirling, and make regular trips to Provence and Japan. The enormously different cultures of Scotland, France and Japan make a beautiful mix for me. They all enrich my life.

I’m a keen photographer and writer and am passionate about stories. Every person I meet has a new story to tell, one I’ve never heard before. We all gain a sense of our selves through the stories we tell each other and it’s through stories that we try to make the invisible, visible.

I love movies, music, science and philosophy, but most of all I love people. Our potential as human beings is greatly underestimated. Life’s about discovering those potentials, and realising them to the full.
